My chickens all gone to a fox this morning. Rooster injured (puncture), and put down with euthanasia. Needless to say I feel so guilty about not doing more to protect them. Deciding on whether to invest in more predator proof measures like livestock guardians and steel mesh or to abandon chook raising altogether.

Dog is well fed. Fox is starving and it's family too. Want to keep fox away from livestock. Throw food scraps out for it/them. Far away from what you want to protect.

Remember kids: if you're going to have chickens, your fences are supposed to keep foxes and other predators from getting in. They are no use if all they do is stop your dog from getting out.

I wonder if the chickens knew that dog was defending them? Some animals DO pick up on such things. They likely see that dog do that a lot.

I read a fox tops out at 30mph. But on the internet, they accelerate away fit German Shepards. Which should be able to do 30 or a little better. Good dog!
